Spotlight On Ameil A. Sloley

At Meals-on-Wheels of New Rochelle we rely on volunteers; our program could not go on without them. Not only do our volunteers deliver meals year-round, they also deliver kindness, compassion and a friendly check in. We'd like to shine a spotlight on one of our volunteers . . . Ameil A. Sloley.

Ameil lives in New Rochelle and is a Director of Human Resources and an Adjunct Business Faculty member at a local college. She learned about delivering for Meals-on-Wheels (MOWNR) from Michael Altamirano, a colleague and longtime friend, who is also a MOWNR volunteer and serves on its board of directors. Ameil said Michael had always spoken highly of the MOWNR program which was part of the motivation for her to volunteer. Like many people, Ameil has been working from home for almost two years. She found it easy to find time to volunteer and considers the time she uses to deliver meals as her lunch break.

When asked what she has gotten out of being a MOWNR volunteer, Ameil said she receives a sense of purpose and being helpful to society and humanity as a whole.

Asked what she would say to anyone considering becoming a volunteer: "Just do it!" she exclaimed, "This is about you helping others and doing your part to help the world become a better place. If we look out for each other, think how much nicer the world we live on would be. We have been asked to be the change; this can be a start."

Thank you to Ameil A. Sloley, we appreciate your time and kindness to be a Meals-on-Wheels of New Rochelle volunteer.
